Caroline McCarley has dedicated her life to public service, guided by a deep commitment to community and common-sense leadership. With decades of experience in government, education, and civic engagement, she brings a wealth of knowledge and a collaborative approach to solving local challenges. Since moving to Brewster full-time in 2021, she has continued her tradition of service, actively contributing to key town initiatives and volunteer organizations. Whether leading committees, supporting local projects, or engaging with residents, Caroline is committed to strengthening Brewster’s future while preserving what makes it special.

Roots in Family, Experience & Values

Caroline’s connection to Brewster extends 42 years. She and her family enjoyed summers at Linger Longer for many years. A lifelong advocate for community and public service, Caroline’s leadership is deeply shaped by her personal experiences. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, she built her career and raised her family in New Hampshire before making Brewster her home. Alongside her husband, Dan Harkinson, she has embraced both professional and volunteer roles that reflect her strong values of education, sustainability, and responsible governance. With three sons and three granddaughters, she understands the importance of making Brewster a thriving place for families of all generations.

  • Married for 50 years to Dan Harkinson, 2024 Brewster Conservation Trust Volunteer of the Year.
  • Mother of three sons and grandmother of three granddaughters.
  • Former Editorial Director at Wiley Publishing, bringing decades of experience in professional publishing.
  • Dedicated to education and civic engagement, from serving as a School Board Chair to mentoring future leaders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics from Davidson College.
